The initial origin of Sauvignon Blanc is ditputed. It is believed that the type of grape, the same as Cabernet Sauvignon, comes from the region around Bordeaux. It is still grown on about 26.000 hectares in France today. In Austria this quality grape variety is also getting more and more popular, in the main production area Styria it is grown on about 900 hectares. The type of grape grows sturdily, but it needs a lot of air and space so that the grapes can mature optimally. The best quality of Austrian Sauvignon is proved by a blind tasting of the 50 world’s best Sauvignon Blanc types. The Austrian ones were more than successful in this regard. Especially the wine region in the south of Styria could live up to its reputation.
